Shortly after Italy-based music producer Railster released his podcast [in which I am featured] on Serbian music blog Pixelatique, I was contacted to be the first female featured on their site! Exciting right? Totally!

Completely enamored and cherry by the idea, I began to visualize. Today, on my 26th birthday, I share “The Main Vein”. Featured are thirteen of our latest favourite songs – that mesh well. He’s helped me so much over the years; I wanted to share this moment, this day, and this project, this new beginning with him. It also includes snippets from interviews with Shyvonne and Jasmine Solano. Both artists are featured on my website and will appear in my fifth print magazine in 2012.

This signifies more than a mere pod cast for me; it is a gift to myself and for all of my fans to keep with them in their daily lives. I hope you enjoy my debut.

Casio Blaster and 99 Mistakes are what make up the Sofia, Bulgaria based…

Casio Blaster and 99 Mistakes are what make up the Sofia, Bulgaria based broken beat instrumental hip-hop elektronik group 1000Names. They’ve been around for a minute, making connections through like-minded producers and releasing music through Svetlana Industries,Project Mooncircle, Black Acre, Eklektik to name a few. And here is what Toby Brundin aka Thunderloops of Svetlana Industries has to say about his boys:

1000names might just be one of the best-kept secrets in music. Despite being at the forefront of the beats/wonky scene this side of the Atlantic that’s blown up so big in the last year, they’ve somehow stayed just under the radar. And it’s not like they’ve been quiet: since their debut on the seminal Beatnicks Vol. 1 alongside Jackhigh and Rustie – perhaps the record which defined the scene in its current incarnation – they’ve put out two EPs, two split singles and an album and been featured on Alex Nut’s Rinse compilation, but somehow it took until now for them to start to get the recognition those who know them have long expected. The answer probably lies in the fact that they’re coming out Sofia, Bulgaria. Out on the Eastern edge where Europe becomes Asia on the shores of the Black sea, it’s hardly a global music industry hotspot. But maybe it’s this relative isolation that makes them stand out in the current explosion of low bpm music from LA, London, Glasgow and elsewhere. First up, they’ve had time to get their sound right. Forming in 2005 as the union of a drummer and a painter with a shared love of samples they pooled their resources to get an Akai MPC and, guided by the sounds of Dabrye, Madlib/Quasimoto and J Dilla, pretty soon they knew where they were headed. Strangely, when you see them now it seems surprising they only teamed up four years ago – they look alike, they walk alike, they finish each other’s sentences – in fact, they’re more like a pair of brothers or non-identical twins. Obviously this was one of those partnerships that was just going to happen, eventually, no matter what. Back in those days the European beats scene was tiny. Unknown to the media, ignored by blogs, this was a one-to-one network that owed its whole existence and sense of being to the internet. In this way it may be the first scene that was truly born of the internet age and truly international. “It was nice, friendly and innocent. Everyone was unsigned” says Nikko a.k.a 99 Mistakes, the painter half of the pair. “We hooked up with Fulgeance on Myspace; the same with Jackhigh. Jackhigh told Joscha from [German label] Up My Alley about us, and Fulgeance connected us with [French label] Eklektik. Joscha heard Melonball Bounce and the next thing we were on Beatnicks Vol. 1 and we had signed an exclusive deal with Eklektik.” Maybe it’s their involvement with mainly European labels that’s kept them out of the glare of the British media, more focused on the Rustie/Hud Mo axis in Glasgow and on the growth of dubstep. However, that’s all set to change, with an upcoming release on Bristol’s Black Acre on 10” green vinyl, followed by an EP on Eklektik and three EPs on the new Svetlana Industries label, also home to Jackhigh. The original 1000names sound was hip hop based; samples and loops underpinned by possibly the wonkiest beats in the scene. Take classic tracks Melonball Bounce or Beauty Surrounds You –one a mash-up of a vintage Sprite advert, the other of the theme from Born Free. In both cases the tracks start with a conventional loop that’s thrown totally off when a huge beat comes in that seems to be hooked to another groove entirely and yet totally fits. This is known to cause two physiological effects in the listener – one a broad smile of pleasure and surprise, the other a potentially painful whiplash in the neck caused by interrupted headnod. This was a direction that they refined and distilled over several years to reach culmination on 2009’s Toys Room Combat longplayer on Eklektik, but since last year something else has come into the mix: they’ve come under the influence of the synthesiser. Or, more specifically, the sound of early 80s electrodisco. You can see it in the song titles: Saturn Race, Paradise Rings, Marz on Marz, Roket Loop… They’ve always had a sci-fi element to their sound and to their graphics, but now it seems like it’s out of control. Yep, there’s no doubt – it’s 2010, and, from a concrete Communist tower block somewhere in Sofia, 1000names are taking off.

The guys also released an EP for Svetlana Industries titled Machine City (listen to the teaser here ) on October 31st and an LP titled Invisible Architect coming out early December on Project: Mooncircle.

Victor Ferreira is best known as Sun Glitters. His music can be descri…

Victor Ferreira is best known as Sun Glitters. His music can be described as the real magic. As he says in biography his sound is an ocean of lush melodies, pitch-shifted vocal samples, ghostly digi-diva choirs, warm bass melodies driven by alternately dense and relaxing beatwork combinations between downtempo and wonky beats. Musical influences gets from great bands such as The Cure, My Bloody Valentine and Drop Nineteens. In electronic music are Boards of Canada, Third Eye Foundation, Burial, Balam Acab. Soon he will release forth 12″ EP named “High” at http://www.musicisforlosers.com/. Enjoy in his world…

BSSX crew aka Bass.exe is a DJ collective from Belgrade, Serbia. Gathered around shared love for bass driven music, Igor Stangliczky aka Stung and Vladimir Manovski aka Grimmowski formed BSSX in 2007 and are still keeping the shit real. This podcast is done in order to pay respect to their musical roots – Ragga / Jungle and to remind you motherfuckers of some of the wickedest original fire tunes from the 90’s. One Love.
Vlada Stojanovic is everything – he is a DJ, a producer, a radio ho…

Vlada Stojanovic is everything – he is a DJ, a producer, a radio host at Space Invader Radio but above all he is a Music Lover! His music taste is so good, he got his mix featured on Laid Back Radio‘s mixcloud page. Beside working with people at Laid Back Radio and Space Invader Radio , he is also a part of Ma Dukes and J Dilla foundation family.

And this is what he has to say about himself:

I never say: I AM DJ, OR PRODUCER, OR MUSICIAN OR … I am just a music lover.

My whole life is about the music. Back in 1992 when my big brother came from school he played me a cassete and track Del Tha Funky Homosapien – Mistadobalina and I was hooked. I was 11 years old then. So, from that moment I began to introduce the music. Firs hip hop, but as I was grovin up genres were fading and music stayed. My grandmother was a jazz and evergreen singer back in 50′s and 60′s, so I probably inherited from her to love jazz music. Proud member of the Global Grooves Collective from 2007.

Incredible record collector … at least so people tell … Great lover of radio stations. As for the collection of music I have to say only one thing: “Just one more record and the end. Finished.” The problem is that I repeat this sentence many years. That’s it. I have a lot of friends (online) and slightly less (offline). And that’s it. People still talk about that I know a lot about music but I say that it is never enough. Follow the news online, my work and enjoy. What more can I say?

Discuss is the outlet of musician/ beat maker and visual artist Andrés…

Discuss is the outlet of musician/ beat maker and visual artist Andrés Ortiz-Ferrari. After several different attempts at making electronic music, Discuss is the pinnacle/ culmination of Andrés’ other projects such as EKOFARM, a more trip-hop oriented endeavor reminiscent of Boards of Canada and definitively heavily influenced by them. Coming from more of a band oriented background with influences such as shoegaze and post-rock, Andrés synthesizes a unique sound under his moniker of Discuss.

In this exclusive podcats for Pixelatique you find Discuss exploring new tunes/ sounds; new structures and compositions inspired by his extended stay in his homeland of Puerto Rico which he had not visited for some years now. Also, a few hidden gems that Andrés recently re-discovered from his catalog. Bass heavy and percussively sculptural, the tunes in this podcast do not stick to one single genre, but blends a collection of a diverse cross genre sound. Atmospherically melodic and at times dark and heavy, this podcast is dedicated to all those people who like to tune in and drift away…

This is a special #13 podcast for us because it’s a live set record…

This is a special #13 podcast for us because it’s a live set recorded at the Exit Festival 2011 @HNS Stage by Brickwall Brigade (Piece of Shh.. & Jan Nemecek)

Goran Simonoski aka Piece of Shh.. is one of the more established producers on Svetlana. He was the key creative engine behind Belgradeyard Soundsystem, one of the first Serbian acts to get some international recognition, releasing for the now defunct German label Ear Sugar with a track featured in Bonobo’s Solid Steel mix CD for Ninja Tune. He also releases minimal as half of Cheap and Deep, releasing on Berlin’s Hardwax and scoring a sizeable underground hit with their first single, Words, Breaths and Pauses.
Under his Piece of Shh… identity Goran plumbs a deeper well, combining a more overt dub influence with glitched noises and the tension and delayed release reminiscent Helixir or Shackleton; almost the opposite of breakdown-heavy ravestep, the tracks constantly develop but hold off on giving you the expected breakdown and drop, creating a totally different dancefloor experience.

London-based Spanish dubstep producer Hektagon (Audio Freaks, Z-audio) has delivered a banger of a remix for the track Diablo Riddim so expect a video and 12” for that very soon. We’ve also got “Zomby’s Acid Mix”, a slice of extreme gloopiness from the legendary bleep producer, but we’re keeping that one under wraps for a little bit ;-)

One of the most interesting younger artists of the club-electronic scene in Serbia is Jan Nemecek, born in 1989. in Belgrade. Due to family musical tradition, at an early age he showed interest for creating electronic music – he started to record with a primitive rhythm machine and a tape machine. At the age of 10 he wrote music for the children’s series as well as for ads for films and TV series. Over time, he switched to MIDI and sequencers, as well as working in a software enviroment, and formed his own studio. He spent several years working on ambient music (the albums Disappearance and Through the Planetary Void), as well as various multimedia works.

In 2006., he released his first techno and house tracks and performed at Exit Festival, barely aged 17, making him one of the youngest performers at this event ever. That same year sees him releasing remixes for different techno artists, as well as a solo CD/DVD Afterimage while the set from Exit was released as a special edition acoompanying the Yellow Cab magazine, with a pressing of 15.000 copies. A year later he co-founded with Danilo Tomic one of the first Serbian net-labels – Norbu, where he turns to a more experimental side of electronica, minimal and house with his Kalope alias.

Ladies and Gentleman, we give you our #12 podcaster who did this mix as a present to us for his birthday - Andrea Railster Uliana aka Railster.

“I started to make music ten years ago as a beatmaker in a hip hop group.
After a lot of time, and a lot of different experiences, I’ve started to make music independently, to feel more free in my artistic expression.

In 2009 I released my first solo album called Patchwork Anthems, in free-download for the italian label ReddArmy. Then I’ve started to do stuff for a lot of friends around the world.
I have remixed a lot of producers, my most important remixes are released by Tokyo Dawn Records and Error Broadcast.
People like Laid Back Radio, Space Invader Radio, NTS Radio, Lifegate Radio (Costantinopoli), have played my stuff in the last years.

Now I’m organizing an italian beat compilation in collaboration with Error Broadcast, Made In Glitch, and lots of italian independent labels. In 2011/2012, also, I hope to have time to release my next EP. ”
