My name is Jeremy Rike and I’m 29. I live in Columbus OH and record music under the name Dose. Although I am very thankful for it’s discovery, I never intended for my music to be heard by anyone other than my close friends. Prior to Dose I was recording hip-hop beats for a local group but that wasn’t fulfilling me artistically. I knew I wanted to branch out and develop my own unique sound, so I started experimenting with new ambient sounds and started sampling tracks that I grew up on as a kid. My parents got divorced when I was young and I remember my dad turning on the radio at night to a station that played really cheesy sappy romantic love songs about heart ache and love. Although these songs are really lame on the surface, a lot of them contain great hooks and emotion that can be flipped into something new and soulful, (sometimes I get a bit carried away while sampling these songs that I end up jamming out/dancing to these corny tracks, fortunately no one else is around to laugh at me). These ballad based love tracks have sort of become the backbone to my sound now, I love being able to take a track from Michael Bolton or Sinead O’Connor and turn it into something that bangs and at the same time hopefully upholds some sort of deep emotion or feeling for the listener. Like I said before I never intended for my music to go beyond the ears of a handful of friends but I really cant describe how thankful I am that I can share my music with people all over the world now. It’s a nice feeling being able to put yourself and emotions into a piece of music and then have people genuinely have love for it, It’s a great reward. Since my music has been unleashed on the world I have received a lot of kind responses to it and that has given me the drive to take it more seriously and keep on progressing. I recently started recording music with a female friend named Chelsea for a side project we have yet to name. She has an incredible voice and I am providing the backing tracks to her angelic vocals. This side project is a more simplified style than the Dose music I record now but it all still comes from the same part of my soul and it fulfills my inner Indie needs. I hope to continue this musical journey and I really appreciate all of the love I have received from it, I love my listeners and I am so happy to share this music with them.

A city is a place for us to be lonely together… ’Loneliness in a big city‘ – a topic which has been accompanying people since they started their travels to far away places. But what does this particular loneliness really mean nowadays? Is it just a void filled with sadness and feeling of isolation in the coldhearted sort of place? Or maybe a space in one’s mind to find the better path on their road of life…?

Let us present you opinions of several foreigners trying to make their dreams come true in a different country. Their statements are mixed with electronic, dubstep tunes, such as: Rumpistol, Rain Dog, Yoko Duo, Christoph El’ Truento, Soosh, Gards From KC, Krts, Sipp, Steamgoat, 1000names, Teebs, Sina., Antennae, Mo Kolours, Melo, Frederic Robinson, Broken Bubble, Kilimanjaro, George Fitzgerald, Furesshu, Jacques Greene, Inga Copeland, Long Arm, Robot Koch and 40 Winks.

“Owsey’s the name, pronounced “Oh-Zee” for nostalgic reasons. I’m a person who’s fond of recalling people and places through sound. Life stories alone ain’t good enough, so from time to time I’ll sprinkle some fiction on there.

I often write music to sit alongside the work of my photographer buddys, Claudia Stanciu and Felicia Simion. A friend once told me of wondrous things that occur when visuals and sound coexist in a way I’d never granted much thought, and the idea has been appealing ever since. Ain’t nothing like placing some fine imagery on a final musical product. There’s not much more that people need or want to know. Peace and love.”

After the success of “Love Exposure”, mc / producer Broke returns with “Chasing Her”, his first solo album.

This album is delivered in a jazzy soulful tone, mixed with elegant word play by the California emcee. If you into deep lyricism and jazzy soul escapes we highly recommend to give this one a good listen.

The result is an EP hiphop heads young and old can feel!

Though he has only been present in the Bass Music scene for a little under two years, 21 year old Seattle based producer/DJ Kid Smpl (formerly spelled “Kid Simple”) has gained the attention of many by producing tunes that pay close attention to both melody and space.

I go by the name of ‘Graciellita’, which is a diminutive of my actual name, Graciella.
It’s reflects my inner ‘lil girl’, my childhood passion.

I am primarily a singer/songwriter, so I started out as a vocalist in a few bands about 4 years ago, whereafter I decided to do recordings.
Over the years, I came out with self-released albums and eps that consisted mainly of collaborative works.
Though, I had a lot of fun working with several producers (and I am very grateful for that!), I felt I needed my own sound, a sound where I can
truly say that, yes, this is me from A-Z.

I self-taught some of the software to produce electronic/experimental music, so, this year I started to put my focus on producing as well.
I have to say, it is a most rewarding feeling! I really put sounds together as I feel at that moment, my music is not as much technical (no!) as it is emotional.
And since it’s from the core, it all somehow comes out dark/sad/and as I get a lot ‘eerie’. I guess that’s part of me. :)

I realised this year that my creativity combined with my ‘soft vocals’ is quite receptive, thanks to my fans/friends and the hype on SoundCloud (thank you!).
I can now call myself a singer/songwriter/producer, have eps out on on record labels, and many more to come in the
near future. Aside from my personal releases, I’m also working with local producer Sipp (he’s inspiring!) on a future ep.

This is my passion! I breathe this, sleep less, and forget about eating. I am very fortunate to have been given this skill
and share it with the world!

xoxoxo

Shortly after Italy-based music producer Railster released his podcast [in which I am featured] on Serbian music blog Pixelatique, I was contacted to be the first female featured on their site! Exciting right? Totally!

Completely enamored and cherry by the idea, I began to visualize. Today, on my 26th birthday, I share “The Main Vein”. Featured are thirteen of our latest favourite songs – that mesh well. He’s helped me so much over the years; I wanted to share this moment, this day, and this project, this new beginning with him. It also includes snippets from interviews with Shyvonne and Jasmine Solano. Both artists are featured on my website and will appear in my fifth print magazine in 2012.

This signifies more than a mere pod cast for me; it is a gift to myself and for all of my fans to keep with them in their daily lives. I hope you enjoy my debut.

I’m based in Zurich, Switzerland and go by the name Gards From KC. I started to make basic hiphop beats five years ago with samples from old vinyls and generic drum patterns. I got influenced by new electronic styles and live shows later and my way of doing music passed different periods.

I now work with samples recorded from the normal day life and a lot of plugins and effects. I mostly drive for dragging beats with deep atmospheres and loads of crackle and crisp sounds. I’m still in a very experimental phase of finding and creating something distinctive.

Once i started to connect and work with other people around the world everything is getting more serious. I did a few mixes for great collectives and was participating on some bigger and some smaller compilations. Lately i mostly worked on remixes including the one for my man Sina. which is out on wax and digital since the 5th of Nov. Thanks to all at P:MC!

Like a month ago some folks in London used one of my tracks for their amazing promo video introducing the Moniker Art Fair 2011 in London (http://vimeo.com/29845130).

Currently i’m working on a lot unfinished tracks on my own and with other artists. I will release the best 8-12 tracks soon as a tape for free download!

Very exciting to mention is that i just found a new local event label called Life Bricks!

We’ll try to prepare a mix between live acts, thrilling dj-sets and visual artists. We’ll kick off this in february next year at a pretty cool venue here in Zurich! We expect us much of this and will do our best to mount some unforgettable nights!

I’m really looking forward to play live shows as well as dj-sets in the future!

Thanks to everybody who enjoy or even listen to my music. It has only just started!

My name’s Mike T. I also go by the name of Mikenike, depending on how I feel. I’ve been producing music for about 7 months. I’m still a little confused about it all but I know that I love doing it. I spend many hours, day & night messing around with programs and instruments. I literally learn something new every day! I mean, there’s so much I need to learn. I never knew how to play piano or guitar even six months ago I didn’t know what a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) was. I’m extremely ignorant when it comes to music but it keeps me happy, especially knowing that I can express these ideas in my head to other people & maybe help them get through their day. And if I’m lucky hopefully get a few fans here & there. I’m not exactly sure where to place my tracks when it comes to genres. I don’t think about that, at all! It really depends on the mood I’m in. It could sound like some trill hip hop or sometimes it could sound like sentimental jazz. I love making beats though. I could spend all day with a couple samples and mess around recording drum patterns. Whether I got a midi keyboard or an mpc, I’ll find a way to go nuts!

When I’m not making music I always go back to my one true love, painting. Something about it just drives me up the wall, in a good way. If that makes sense to you. Build & destroy. Layers upon layers. tearing through old furniture. It’s a form of therapy for me to just rip a whole through something and start painting it. As a rebellious teen it was my go to thing every time my emotions got the best of me. And now I have music. I owe it all to my homie eKALB (Closed Casket Collective) who introduced me to music production a couple months back. We we’re close friends through out high school and still are but he moved up north to San Francisco, I wish that guy the best! It’s a cold world out there but as long as I got my freedom to express through art & music, I’ll be able to continue living an honest and meaningful life. I’m not sure where this is all going but I’m taking it day by day. Expecting the best but always prepared for the worst. I have an EP coming out this December on an independent label called Strong & Tough Audio. I’m excited for that! We’ll have to wait see what happens in the future. 2012 should be big though…

Casio Blaster and 99 Mistakes are what make up the Sofia, Bulgaria based…

Casio Blaster and 99 Mistakes are what make up the Sofia, Bulgaria based broken beat instrumental hip-hop elektronik group 1000Names. They’ve been around for a minute, making connections through like-minded producers and releasing music through Svetlana Industries,Project Mooncircle, Black Acre, Eklektik to name a few. And here is what Toby Brundin aka Thunderloops of Svetlana Industries has to say about his boys:

1000names might just be one of the best-kept secrets in music. Despite being at the forefront of the beats/wonky scene this side of the Atlantic that’s blown up so big in the last year, they’ve somehow stayed just under the radar. And it’s not like they’ve been quiet: since their debut on the seminal Beatnicks Vol. 1 alongside Jackhigh and Rustie – perhaps the record which defined the scene in its current incarnation – they’ve put out two EPs, two split singles and an album and been featured on Alex Nut’s Rinse compilation, but somehow it took until now for them to start to get the recognition those who know them have long expected. The answer probably lies in the fact that they’re coming out Sofia, Bulgaria. Out on the Eastern edge where Europe becomes Asia on the shores of the Black sea, it’s hardly a global music industry hotspot. But maybe it’s this relative isolation that makes them stand out in the current explosion of low bpm music from LA, London, Glasgow and elsewhere. First up, they’ve had time to get their sound right. Forming in 2005 as the union of a drummer and a painter with a shared love of samples they pooled their resources to get an Akai MPC and, guided by the sounds of Dabrye, Madlib/Quasimoto and J Dilla, pretty soon they knew where they were headed. Strangely, when you see them now it seems surprising they only teamed up four years ago – they look alike, they walk alike, they finish each other’s sentences – in fact, they’re more like a pair of brothers or non-identical twins. Obviously this was one of those partnerships that was just going to happen, eventually, no matter what. Back in those days the European beats scene was tiny. Unknown to the media, ignored by blogs, this was a one-to-one network that owed its whole existence and sense of being to the internet. In this way it may be the first scene that was truly born of the internet age and truly international. “It was nice, friendly and innocent. Everyone was unsigned” says Nikko a.k.a 99 Mistakes, the painter half of the pair. “We hooked up with Fulgeance on Myspace; the same with Jackhigh. Jackhigh told Joscha from [German label] Up My Alley about us, and Fulgeance connected us with [French label] Eklektik. Joscha heard Melonball Bounce and the next thing we were on Beatnicks Vol. 1 and we had signed an exclusive deal with Eklektik.” Maybe it’s their involvement with mainly European labels that’s kept them out of the glare of the British media, more focused on the Rustie/Hud Mo axis in Glasgow and on the growth of dubstep. However, that’s all set to change, with an upcoming release on Bristol’s Black Acre on 10” green vinyl, followed by an EP on Eklektik and three EPs on the new Svetlana Industries label, also home to Jackhigh. The original 1000names sound was hip hop based; samples and loops underpinned by possibly the wonkiest beats in the scene. Take classic tracks Melonball Bounce or Beauty Surrounds You –one a mash-up of a vintage Sprite advert, the other of the theme from Born Free. In both cases the tracks start with a conventional loop that’s thrown totally off when a huge beat comes in that seems to be hooked to another groove entirely and yet totally fits. This is known to cause two physiological effects in the listener – one a broad smile of pleasure and surprise, the other a potentially painful whiplash in the neck caused by interrupted headnod. This was a direction that they refined and distilled over several years to reach culmination on 2009’s Toys Room Combat longplayer on Eklektik, but since last year something else has come into the mix: they’ve come under the influence of the synthesiser. Or, more specifically, the sound of early 80s electrodisco. You can see it in the song titles: Saturn Race, Paradise Rings, Marz on Marz, Roket Loop… They’ve always had a sci-fi element to their sound and to their graphics, but now it seems like it’s out of control. Yep, there’s no doubt – it’s 2010, and, from a concrete Communist tower block somewhere in Sofia, 1000names are taking off.

The guys also released an EP for Svetlana Industries titled Machine City (listen to the teaser here ) on October 31st and an LP titled Invisible Architect coming out early December on Project: Mooncircle.

Magnum’s music dwells within the realms of dark, heavy basslines, ethereal arpegiated synth stabs, dislocated vocal chops, primitive drums, old school breaks, and futuristic rhythm patterns carefully constructed into stories that take place in the lost island of Puerto Rico. His latin roots mixed with the influence of Punk Rock, Hip Hop, Idm, House, Jungle and other types of electronica and world grooves are apparent in his productions which may vary in styles, but always evoke weird and deep emotional soundscapes.

Along the years Magnum has altered consciousness at local stages alongside: The Bloody Beetroots, Boys Noize, Steve Aoki, MSTRKRFT, Afrojack, Huoratron, Le Castlevania, LA Riots, Felix Cartal, DatA, Lazaro Casanova, Nadastrom, The Prodigy, The Crystal Method, Andi Thoma (Mouse on Mars), Nacotheque, Goldie, Photek, Bailey, Ed Rush & Optical & Roni Size among others and more recently with Toy Selectah, Geko Jones, Talk, Appleblim, Martyn, A Made Up Sound/2562, Zed Bias, Salva, Ramadanman and Silkie.

In 2010 after causing some commotion locally and over the internet, Magnum joined forward-thinking club music label, Nightshifters, based in Berlin and run by DJ Donna Summer and Jubilee to remix Canblaster’s “Triple Ring” for Canblaster’s debut EP and then release his own debut EP “Grooveworks” in May 2011, which showcases some harsher, heavier rave vibes and gets remixed by top new-weirdos: Hostage, Panteros666 from Club Cheval fame, Randomer and Lucid. In the following months Magnum released “Schemes” on Future of Bass 1, a compilation cured by HxdB for US based label Gradient Audio and remixed Bosstone, Emmerson & Klauser, MadJazz and Lao. His sophomore EP “Visions” came out on Belgium based label Inhale on October 2011 and recieved early support from 2562, Randomer, Norrit and Resketch among many others. Fall/Winter plans for Magnum in 2011 include a forthcoming release on UK based label 92 Points as well as more new tunes, more remixing, more shows and launching his own label Tribe.

When I came up with the concept for the show I wanted to do something fresh. Nowadays you have magazines and all types of media output about the music industry – and even independent or underground artists.

So I thought the radio is still a nice way to combine music and information. That’s why I started to put interviews, with people who could be of interest to the listener, in there. Everyone has good stories to tell but doesn’t get the time – because they are limited to 5 minutes. So I wanted to take the time and let the artist speak.

Another thing that I thought was dope are the guest mixes in the second hour. They are done by different Djs from all over the world. They get time to play what they want – fuck genres and the style of the show. The mixes should be an honest representation of what they are feeling musically at the moment.

So I’ve been doing this for quite a bit now and I’ve met wonderful people and played even more amazing music. I guess I’m lucky to have this output which keeps growing.

Hopefully more to come.

If there’s anything any good DJ should be able to do, it is to set a mood. In the case of this cat from Vienna/Austria/Europe, the mood is going to be majestic – no matter which musical genres are involved. Inspired by Hip Hop, he explored it’s various roots – Jazz, Soul, Funk… – at an early age and paid his dues playing some residencies around his hometown. In recent years, he’s been immersing himself in the international Beat movement that fuses Hip Hop aesthetics with more electronic soundscapes and even deeper bass frequencies. His online radio show Groove Merchants is a good starting point for explorations into the field as it also features interviews with artists like Hudson Mohawke, Waajeed, Tokimonsta & Mount Kimbie. He is also the resident DJ for “The Message Radio Show” on Vienna’s Superfly FM and co-hosts the club series Royal Eclectic.
